Short version: Anoto doesn’t collect anything about you. Your tasks are yours.

Last updated 2 October 2026.

What Anoto stores

Your tasks: the text you write, whether a task is done, and which day it belongs to. Nothing else.

If you’re signed in to iCloud on your Mac, Anoto saves your tasks in iCloud key-value storage in your own iCloud account, so they’re available on your other Macs. If you’re not, they’re saved only on your Mac, inside Anoto’s own app container. Apple looks after iCloud under its own privacy policy.

What Anoto doesn’t do

There is no account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no ads and no tracking. Anoto doesn’t send anything to me or to anyone else, and I can’t see your tasks.

Exports and notifications

When you choose File › Export Tasks…, Anoto writes a Markdown file to the place you pick, and nowhere else. The first time you export, macOS asks whether Anoto may show notifications. They are only used to tell you whether the export worked.

Deleting your tasks

Delete a task in Anoto and it’s gone from your Mac and from your iCloud account. Tasks on past days can’t be changed in the app; if you want them removed, write to me and I’ll help.
